In May of 2020, [[Fargendo]] realized that there was little activity at spawn. In an effort to garner more interest at spawn, he suggested that the spawn region for new players be increased from a 350 block area (radius or diameter? likely diameter) to a 1000 block area. This change was implemented at some point mid-May, and resulted initially in a far less dangerous spawn regions. Players would frequently spawn on ungriefed terrain and be able to escape spawn without any trouble. This is the current state of spawn as of 19 May 2020.

A 1k x 1k render of spawn, taken March 2020.

Spawn refers to the worldspawn of DestroyMC, where all new players enter the server upon their first login. Consisting of the center of the server map, spawn is often used as a meeting place and is a hub of activity for many players. The spawn point itself is centered at around -200, 250, though typically players will spawn within a decently-sized radius.

History

The spawn was generated on May 27, 2019 with the server's creation. Spawn was originally a massive oak and birch forest located next to a hill, and the area around 0,0 was a swamp.

Old Structures

A few notable structures were located at spawn before being destroyed by the numerous lavacasts.

The Pit

The Pit was a ten block deep hole next to spawn that was created by xCape to trap new players into.

Fuck Sign

The Fuck Sign was created a little after the server was first online. It was ontop of the hill next to spawn.

0,0

The coordinates 0,0 are the exact center of the map and the location of the main Nether portals. The Overworld highways intersect here at y=120 inside a giant lavacast. A second, older set of highways is located at y=70, but these do not run very far outside spawn.

A massive, wither-filled cavern stretching down to bedrock exists under 0,0. Since it was originally located in a swamp biome, wet sponges litter the area, though some portions are still flooded.

Notable Structures

Lavacasts

Many lavacasts cover the landscape at spawn. Many of these were built by Fargendo.

Lava Walls

So far, two lava walls have been constructed at spawn.

On June 18, 2019, a giant lava wall was casted around spawn at the block limit by Conga0 and EyepAddress, effectively turning it in to a lava-walled playground for spawn campers. This was later dismantled on 6/20/19 by Chipoff and ExtinctAJ, much to the builders' ire. Its remains can still be seen within the larger spawn wall today.

On November 5, 2019, Fargendo created a new 500x500 lava wall around 0,0, surrounding spawn. By March 2020, most of this lava would be extinguished leaving only their cobblestone remains.

The Lava Machine

Built by Fargendo, the Lava Machine was capable of bringing the server to 4 TPS or lower. It's main purpose was to create a giant mountain at spawn, but only reached about 60 blocks tall before it was abandoned as the lag it created and time it took wasn't worth the effort. The obsidian platform the machine once stood on can still be seen at spawn to this day.
