The Waiting Server (also known as the queue server) is a "buffer server." Players will connect to this server on every login. There is a captcha that players have to complete in order to join the main server. Once a player completes the captcha, they will bypass it for 24 hours. Once the 24 hours is up, it will appear again. The server was mainly added to stop bot attacks after a deluge of attacks occurred during the early part of February.

The waiting server also has a queue system built in. If the main server is full, players will be put into a queue.

History

The waiting server was first added as a queue server on February 13th, 2020. Players would only connect to the queue server if the main server was full. With this addition, the first captcha appeared on the server, which was unfortunately partially broken. Bots were able to bypass this and completely fill up the server. The TPS dropped down and the server was suffering heavily. Because of this, hyperdefined had to completely change it.

A couple of days later, hyperdefined added the waiting server. Originally, players had to complete the captcha on every login. This was changed shortly after to only appear once every 24 hours. If bots join the server, they will not cause lag on the main server.

Problems

Soon after the waiting server was added, the main server suffered from a major crashing issue. At first, it wasn't too frequent. When a player logged in, the server would stop responding and eventually crashed. The main source of the issue was not identified.

To help with the crashing, hyperdefined added a delay on joining the main server. Instead of being sent instantly to the main server, players would have to wait 5 seconds. However, this did not solve the issue. Eventually, he removed the waiting server because many players were losing items from the crashing. With the removal, there were many bot attacks against the server because there was no captcha to stop them. The waiting server was then added back and the server crashing was still appearing. This became known as the Crash Dupe.
